Local SEO in Phoenix or anywhere is all about where you are. That’s pretty simple and straight-forward right? If you want people to find you in your area, let them know where you service. But I am amazed at how many businesses do not do this on their websites.
Mine included. Before I started this challenge, I had a contact page. That was all. A phone number, an email and a contact form. Sure I had some out-dated portfolio pages and some pages about my experience, resume and services offered. Still have those by the way and I need to update them. But as far as my service areas go, I neglected it. Why? Because I didn’t want to limit myself to only people in the Phoenix area. As if someone was going to come across my website in New York and say to themselves, “Wow! I really want this guy Jon Loudon to work on my website. I don’t know where his service areas are so I’m going to hire him.”
So the first step in my challenge to get found for local SEO in the Phoenix area was to specify my actual service areas. I live outside of Phoenix and have driven up to 90 miles to meet with clients, so I didn’t want to limit myself to my actual neighborhood. I went to the Google Maps and wrote down all the areas I’d be willing to drive to. Then I searched area codes for those cities and made a comprehensive list of all areas and area codes that I service. Why area codes? Because, it turns out people who are searching for things in their area often search with their area code. I came up with the following:
