Geo Marketing – A lesson in appealing to your audience on a localized basis.

Recently I noticed a banner that appealed to California business owners to get a free website! I couldn’t resist. I clicked.

It’s google! They’re pitching it as a “California” thing…it’s brilliant! Here is the link.

At first, I thought it was a ploy by a third party to make money on signups with Intuit…but no, it’s a legit pitch from Google.

If you are in Kansas, you’ll see this link instead:

Good use of the geo-location advertising for sure.

Often I use geo-location more of an immediate area synopsis…letting people know that I have services in their neck of the woods, brings them to me.  This however is reversing that model and gaining the interest of a specific, yet public group (business owners) by appealing to them on a local relevant platform.

Anyhow, this brings me to the free service that Google offers for building and hosting websites.  If you haven’t checked it out, you should.  It’s been going for quite sometime.

It’s nothing spectacular but it’s there, and it’s free like so many of their services.
